Focusing on domestic and international transactions, our Energy Teams were the first of their kind at any major Japanese law firm.  Since the 2000s we have advised on numerous significant energy projects in Japan and overseas. Our enviable client base includes international investors, global investment funds, energy developers and financial institutions and export credit agencies. 

We have diverse and deep experience of advising on renewables (solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and hydro), emerging sectors such as clean hydrogen, clean ammonia, carbon capture and storage and battery energy storage systems  as well as more traditional area such as LNG and upstream oil & gas and nuclear power. 

Across all the energy sectors we advise on everything from structuring, equity investments and joint ventures, to EPC, O&M, offtake and transportation to regulatory matters, competition law, international sanctions and dispute resolution. 
 Our energy teams advise on the laws of numerous jurisdictions with particular expertise in New York, England, Canada, Australia, Singapore,  Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan. A number of our lawyers also serve as expert members of government committees and provide advice to policy makers including in the Japanese energy market.
