In recent years, the importance of data in business has increased. Japan does not have a single law called "data law", but a patchwork of various laws. In principle, data is free to use, no matter who uses it and how to use it. However, as an exception, there are cases where someone is given the right to control data by Japan's Copyright Act, Unfair Competition Prevention Act, Act on the Protection of Personal Information, or the like.
