Nishimura & Asahi enters formal law alliance in Singapore

Nishimura & Asahi (Singapore) LLP (“NASG”) is pleased to announce its entry into a formal law alliance with Bayfront Law LLC, a Singapore law practice (“Bayfront Law”). This formal law alliance, to be known as Nishimura & Asahi-Bayfront Law Alliance, was established on June 1, 2020, following approval from the Ministry of Law Singapore.

Established in 2012, NASG has provided legal services to clients operating in Singapore and throughout the ASEAN region. NASG is led by co-representatives Masato Yamanaka, who specializes in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and finance, and Shintaro Uno, who focuses on cross-border construction projects and disputes. NASG has twelve lawyers (eight Japanese lawyers and four foreign lawyers) who are collectively qualified in Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia - in particular, four Japanese lawyers (being Masato Yamanaka, Masataka Sato, Yuji Senda and Tomoro Yoshimoto) are currently qualified in Singapore to practice certain areas of Singapore law under section 36B of the Legal Profession Act (Cap. 161 of Singapore).

Bayfront Law began operations in 2017 and has twelve Singaporean lawyers, with capabilities across private and public mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, investment funds, corporate and commercial, and litigation and arbitration. It is led by managing director Kesavan Nair, who specializes in civil and commercial litigation and international arbitration.

NASG and Bayfront Law have enjoyed a strong working relationship and a shared understanding of the cultural and work styles of each firm and the wider Nishimura & Asahi group.

Nishimura & Asahi-Bayfront Law Alliance, the first formal law alliance in Singapore for a Japanese law practice, will allow NASG to work as an integrated team with Bayfront Law to provide a one-stop platform and a full spectrum of Singaporean, Japanese and international legal services, particularly for cross-border mergers and acquisitions and international arbitration. Bayfront Law will also benefit from the shared resources of the Nishimura & Asahi group to expand its capacity and services.

Nishimura & Asahi-Bayfront Law Alliance reflects Nishimura & Asahi’s commitment to continued investment in Singapore and the ASEAN region, and to the continued growth of its integrated multi-jurisdictional network.
