Masahiro Ueno has been a partner in the finance group of the firm since 1996. He mainly deals with banking, structured finance, and financial regulation.
Mr. Ueno has handled a number of domestic and international finance transactions (including the first management buy-out deal in Japan, the first project finance deal for a wind power plant in Japan, and the issuance of the first multi-borrower commercial mortgage backed securities in Japan). In those transactions, he has advised Japanese and overseas financial institutions, non-financial business companies and investment funds.
Mr. Ueno is a graduate of the University of Tokyo (LL.B., 1984) and University of Pennsylvania Law School (LL.M., 1991), and admitted to the bars of Japan and New York. He has authored books, book chapters, and articles in the area of M&A finance, project finance, real estate finance, and syndicated loans. In addition, he occasionally contributed notes on Japanese financial law development to an Australian journal (“Journal of Banking and Finance Law and Practice”). He is also an individually ranked lawyer in the finance-related category of Chambers Global, Legal 500, IFLR 1000 and Best Lawyers.
